The sound powered telephone system is one in which the power is created by vibrations in your speech against the plate in the mouthpiece. No external electric power or batteries are needed. During unrep, sound powered phones are connected to bridge-to-bridge phone/distance and station-to-station phone lines and provide communication between the sending and receiving ships.
