HydraSearch Insight: Product Offerings and Capabilities
By Patrick Garrett, Vice President of Sales at HydraSearch Company
Hello, my name is Patrick Garrett. I have been with HydraSearch for 26 years and currently serve as the Vice President of Sales. My role involves managing the sales department and supporting the company’s growth. I’d like to share an overview of some of the product offerings at HydraSearch.
Marine Military Hose and Fittings

HydraSearch manufactures a wide variety of fittings at its facility in Stevensville, Maryland. The company produces approximately 30 different QPLs for fittings, all built to MIL standard 24787, as well as MIL standards 24135 and 24136.
All hose assemblies are built in accordance with the Navy Technical Directive TED-10, which supports sound attenuation and reduces the noise signature of ships. These hose assemblies and fittings are used across all U.S. Navy ships and Military Sealift Command ships.
Aerospace Product Offerings

HydraSearch also provides aerospace products that are similar to maritime offerings, particularly in terms of reusable or field-attachable fittings. However, in aerospace applications, not only must the hose and fittings meet MIL standards, but the full hose assembly must also be qualified. These assemblies are produced and qualified within the Stevensville facility.
Refueling at Sea (Underway Replenishment)

One of the most recognized product lines from HydraSearch is its refueling-at-sea systems, built to NAVSEA requirements and drawings. HydraSearch is among the few manufacturers globally producing these systems.
These systems enable fuel transfer between ships while underway, typically about 150 feet apart using around 300 feet of hose. HydraSearch manufactures complete systems, including probes, receivers, hoses, couplings, trolleys, and related components.
In addition, the company produces components used in replenishment systems for transferring cargo and mail between ships, all built according to NAVSEA standards.
Technical Product Offerings

HydraSearch manufactures technical components such as O-ring face seal fittings, pipe and tube fittings, union assemblies, globe valves, and instrumentation valves. These products are available in various materials and combinations, all built in accordance with NAVSEA requirements.
Commitment to Quality and Safety
HydraSearch understands the critical importance of its products. Every component, regardless of size, plays a role in supporting the U.S. Navy.
The company has responded to urgent situations, including a case where flooding aboard a ship required immediate action. Being located about four hours from Norfolk, HydraSearch was able to deliver a required part directly, helping resolve the issue.
Employees at HydraSearch are empowered to stop production if any process does not meet required standards. The focus remains on safety, quality, and supporting the fleet.
Understanding Requirements and Compliance
HydraSearch operates with a strong understanding of DFARS regulations and other compliance requirements. The company ensures that all products meet strict quality standards, providing not just components but reliability and safety for sailors.
Role in the Supply Chain
HydraSearch considers itself both a small and significant part of the larger Navy supply chain. While contributing individual components, the company plays a critical role in maintaining system integrity and safety.
Markets Served
HydraSearch serves multiple markets, including:
- Navy shipbuilding
- Aerospace components
- Land-based systems
- Refueling-at-sea systems
- Commercial products
The company works with OEMs such as Newport News, Bath Iron Works, Electric Boat, as well as smaller boat builders like Viking Yachts and Nautique.
Defense Contractor Operations
HydraSearch supports various shipbuilding programs and works with prime shipbuilders. It also supplies directly to the U.S. Navy and other related operations.
Experience and Background
So I started with a sister company to HydraSearch back in 2000, which basically lends itself to manufacturing to small craft builders.
2007-2008, the economic downturn hit, so needed kind of replacement for a few employees, and I ended up here at HydraSearch, which ended up being a fantastic move for me. I hope for HydraSearch as well, and along with that came the supporting component with all the friends and family I’ve learned to love as I’ve grown through the company. I think relationship building here at HydraSearch depends on trust.
Customer Relationships and Trust
HydraSearch focuses on building trust with customers through knowledge, support, and technical expertise. Customers can rely on receiving products that meet exact specifications and standards.
Product Standards and Certifications
HydraSearch products are built and qualified to MIL standards and comply with detailed military specifications. The company meets NAVSEA requirements, manufactures to their drawings, and tests according to their specifications.
HydraSearch is also certified to:
- AS9100 Delta
- ISO 9001
Hose Assembly Capabilities
HydraSearch offers a wide range of hose assemblies, primarily using field-attachable reusable fittings. One of the most critical assemblies is the dogleg assembly, designed to reduce ship noise through sound attenuation.
The company supports various fluid transfer needs, including refueling, hydraulic systems, and other applications.
Availability and Purchasing
HydraSearch products can be purchased directly through the company or via distributors. Commercial products are available on Amazon, while defense products are not sold through that platform.
